Math is More Than Numbers

Home | It's Perfectly Norm-al | Additional Resources | Lesson Plans | Contact Us | Math Links

Math is traditionally taught in very conventional ways, with students completing worksheets and looking for a right or wrong answer. With this website, we hope to promote a different way of teaching math, through integrating it with all areas of the curriculum in a more holistic approach. Math should be taught with inclusion in mind, in order to make material accessible to all students and honour their culturally diverse backgrounds. We hope to break the mold of teaching math through fear-based methodology, and instead teach in a way to make math enjoyable for students with a variety of learning styles.

Through math, teachers can build awareness around social justice issues, and raise consciousness around these important topics present in our society today. Teaching with social justice in mind also promotes diversity in the classroom, and gives students a sense of belonging, respect, and responsibility to their classroom, the community, and the world at large.
